The Grand Hotel Bristol was inaugurated in 1911 when the Tigullio was an international tourist destination of the highest level. In 1925 the Minister for Foreign Affairs and future Prime Minister Austin Chamberlain stayed here during his state visit with the head of the Italian government, Benito Mussolini. Winston Churchill also chose the Grand Hotel during his stay on the Riviera in 1927 when he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer and again in 1945 after having lead to United Kingdom to victory in the Second World War.
